In my first year at MIT I attended your 60th birthday party, and I’m thrilled to be invited to your 90th 30 years later! You were a great inspiration to me in my work and my life. The lessons you taught me, not only about linguistic theory but also how embracing challenge leads to growth and discovery, have stayed with me through all these years. I wish you many, many more years of wisdom, creativity, and happiness.
